Chris Winslow
Coach, Educator, veteran, and Lifelong Mentor
I’m Chris Winslow, and for over 25 years, I have dedicated my life to education, coaching, and athletics. My journey began on the lacrosse fields, where I played at Farmingdale College under the guidance of Hall of Fame coach Fred Acee. Competing in two JUCO National Championships ignited my passion for the sport and teamwork.
After my Junior College career, I proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps with the 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Corps Scout Snipers. This experience not only instilled in me a strong sense of discipline and leadership but also deepened my understanding of camaraderie—lessons that I carry into my coaching today.
Upon returning to academia, I captained the SUNY Oneonta lacrosse team (coach Joe Alberici, West Point) from 1994 to 1996, where I earned First Team All-Conference honors and had the incredible opportunity to play on the STX All-Star team (coached by Hall of Fame coach Paul Wehrum) in Australia. These experiences shaped my coaching philosophy, which emphasizes resilience, teamwork, and the importance of striving for excellence both on and off the field.
As a teacher of high school social studies, I aim to inspire my students just as I do my athletes. I believe that education extends beyond the classroom, and sports can serve as a powerful platform for personal growth. I’ve coached at various levels, including both boys/girls lacrosse and as head varsity boys lacrosse coach at Center Moriches, where I strive to create an environment that fosters not just skill development, but also character building. (I have also coached football, wrestling and track at Center Moriches)
My approach to coaching is rooted in mentorship. I love working with kids, helping them realize their potential, not just as athletes but as individuals. I prioritize building strong relationships based on trust and respect, encouraging my players to push their boundaries and support one another.
In addition to my educational and coaching roles, I am a founder of NY4Ukraine.com (501c3-nonprofit) and serve as an Ocean Rescue Supervisor for the Town of Brookhaven, a position I’ve held since 1988. This role reinforces my commitment to community and safety, allowing me to instill values of responsibility and service in my students and athletes.
Ultimately, my mission is to empower young people to become confident, capable leaders. Whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the community, I strive to be a positive influence and a source of support, guiding the next generation to succeed in all their endeavors.
